In motherhood, I have had the joy of witnessing springtime in my five children and now the joy of doing the same in the lives of my grandchildren.
Spring is the season of firsts; first time sitting up, first time crawling, first steps, first words, first birthdays, first time riding a bike, first time reading, first time writing their name, first friendships, first time going to school.
If you are a mother, grandmother, aunt, or friend of those with littles be in the wonder of who God is and rejoice that He has given you the opportunity to be an eyewitness to these firsts in the lives of the children around you. They are precious moments.
Coupled with these precious moments in the spring of children’s lives is also the rewarding yet often exhausting work of discipline. As a girl, I remember watching a farmer clear the land for planting. It took time and consistency to remove trees, rocks and weeds. Even when the field was ready for planting which is done in the spring of the year, he had to be out every day watching for weeds. It was hard, exhausting work but in the end his field bore a beautiful harvest. It’s the same in mothering as it takes time and consist tending to clear the field, so to speak, for planting. If you wonder why mothering is exhausting at times, it’s because you are raising little eternal beings which takes a lot of work.
How do you alleviate the exhaustion?
STAY IN THE WONDER!
See God in all things and take note of the ‘wonder moments’ by staying tethered to God’s word, by reminding yourself of who God is and who you are in Him, (ABC’s), and by getting outside in God’s amazing creation.
Now that I am older and the spring of my life is long over, I can look back and see God’s goodness through it all. I love Francesca Battistelli’s song, “God is Good, ” which describes this truth so beautifully.
Blessings to you,
Heather Haas
