Phones are hurting our ability to wonder. With heads bent down, eyes buried in mindless scrolling, we are missing out on the preciousness of life all around us. We are missing the “wonder moments” as my daughter Elizabeth calls them. Sweet fleeting moments of time as well as bitter fleeting moments of time.

After dropping my youngest off at work today, I sat in the car for a moment to check my phone for the umpteenth time and the tree outside my window grabbed my attention. Resting att the tip of every leafless branch were sparkling droplets of rain. It was so beautiful that it caused me to put down my phone and praise the Lord. It was a fleeting “wonder moment” that I caught. The Lord is the Creator!
We have the joy in Minnesota of experiencing the seasons which are packed full of “wonder moments” if only we have the eyes to see them. Genesis 8:22 says, “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.” What a promise!
Here are some of my most favorite ‘wonder moments’ from each season both outside and inside my home
Spring – I love watching tulips and daffodils pop up through the soil and observing the hues of pink bursting forth in the trees. What goes on outside, I love to reflect on the inside and so I decorate our home with glass baskets, bunnies, and flowers. All is new!

Summer – My mother loved the summer wild flowers that grew along the highways in northern Minnesota. Daisies, Indian Paintbrush, and buttercups were her favorites. Summer is also the season where the hues of greens grace the trees. What goes on outside, I love to reflect on the inside so I decorate with blue mason jars filled summer flowers. All is Growing!

Autumn – Autumn is the time when the leaves reveal their true colors in hues of red, orange, and yellow. As in each season, I bring the outside into my home and decorate with glass pumpkins and amberina. All is Fruitful!!

Winter – Have you noticed the wonder in children at the first snowfall? Do you observe the wonder of snowflakes sparkling in the moonlight on a winter walk? In winter, I decorate with silver and crystal. All is Waiting for Renewal!

Mothering Pearls:
- Point out the beauty of each season with your children.
- “Do you see those flowers poking up out of the ground and the pink blossoms on the trees? Let’s smell the lilacs! God is so good.”
- “Look at those beautiful flowers growing on the side of the road? Let’s stop and pick some. God loves beauty.”
- “The leaves are changing showing us their true colors? Aren’t they amazing? God loves color.”
- “Children, it’s snowing. Look how beautiful! God is beautiful.”
- Decorate for the seasons. Your children will love it!
Question for Ponder:
What is your favorite season and what about that season causes you to Stay in the Wonder of who God is and who you are in Him?
Blessings to you,
Heather
