It is a glorious morning here in Sarona, Wisconsin. The sun is just peeking up over the horizon. The birds are awake and singing. The leaves are rustling in the trees. There are a returning pair of loons calling to one another. I have a birds eye view of this as I am sitting on the front porch of our cabin. This morning, I am reflecting on my dear mom and dad as today is their 56th wedding anniversary.
My parents met while my mother was a student teaching at Roosevelt High School and my father was teaching German. My mother was very youthful in her appearance and one day my dad came into the the teacher’s lounge and saw my mother making copies at the mimeograph machine. (Do you remember those purple printed pages?). When he saw her, he rebuked her and said, “Miss, this is the faculty lounge, it is NOT for students.” My mother replied with a bit a sassafras and said, “Sir, I am faculty,” and she walked out. At that moment, my dad was smitten.
A few days later, he saw her struggling to pour water out of a pitcher in the lunch line and he swooped in to help her and then asked her to have lunch with him. Maybe my mother was a bit smitten too because she complied immediately. While they were visiting, he shared that he was going to be taking 25 students biking through Europe for two months and that his female chaperone had decided not to go that morning and he wondered if my mother would like to go. With a quick call home to her parents to ask for their permission, she said yes. That was the summer of 1964. At the end of the trip, while on top of one of the Austrian Alps, my dad asked my mother for her hand in marriage and they were married the following summer in Rhinelander, WI on June 12, 1965. I am sure glad they did.

Who is God?
He is the Author of our lives and He certainly wrote a beautiful story in the marriage of my parents; a story full of joy and sorrow which are the best kind of stories.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. Hebrews 12:2
Who are you in Him?
If you are following Christ today, then you know you were chosen by Him, the author and perfecter of your faith, before the foundation of the world. When my parents married, my dad did not know that He was chosen, but by His grace, the Lord showed him that he was when I was about ten years old and my sister, Jennie was 6.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world. Ephesians 1:3-4
When You Pray
Pray for your marriage if you are married. Pray for your friend’s marriages.
Let marriage be held in honor among all. Hebrews 13:4
Blessings to you!
