This morning I took my daughter to the DMV to take her driver’s permit test at 5:30 am. We waited in a long line for over two hours. While we were waiting, I was saddened by all the masks worn pointing to the times in which we are living. I was saddened by so many phones in hands keeping people unconnected and distant. I was frustrated by the lack of efficiency at the DMV. There just has to be a better way to do things. While I was pondering all this, I looked up and saw a beautiful rainbow span over the DMV as the sun was peeking up over the building. It was a precious reminder of who God is and that in the midst of my thinking negative thoughts, He was there. It is true that “the heavens declare the glory of God and the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Psalm 19:1

At 8 am, we were sent home and told to wait for her number to be called. At 11 am, we received the call to return. By God’s grace, Meredith passed with no issues at all. Praise the Lord!!!
Have any of you noticed that many of DMV employees, on the best of days, seem slow and unengaged with what they were doing; they really seem to dislike their jobs. This is a generalization, of course, and I am sure there are a few that like it. The movie, “Zootopia,” is about a world of animals living like humans. There are several scenes where some of the animals have to go to the DMV to get their ID’s updated or something like that. The DMV employees are depicted as sloths and I think it is quite fitting. Sloths are slow moving and expressionless; they never seem to be in any kind of hurry to do anything and aren’t too excited about much of anything. They seem lazy and lukewarm about life. That is exactly what we experienced this morning….lots of laziness and lukewarmness (is that a word? Aunt Sandy?). I think I, at times, am sloth like in many things and this grieves me. There is no reason in all the world for this. Lazy and lukewarm are not attributes fitting for one walking with the Lord. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. We are to be hard at work, passionately pursuing and serving Him. We are not to be lazy or lukewarm.
We want to be abounding in the work of the Lord.
I Corinthians 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”
We want to heed the warning of being lukewarm.
Revelation 3:15-16 I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.”
We don’t want to be slothful in zeal for the Lord.
Romans 12:9-11 says,“Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.”
We don’t want to be lazy and lukewarm in loving genuinely, hating evil, loving one another with brotherly affection, outdoing one another in showing honor, and zeal for the Lord. We want to be fervent in spirit, which we will look at next time.
Blessings to you as you resist the temptation to be lazy and lukewarm :)
When You Pray….
- Pray that you would love genuinely, abhor evil (especially in your own life), hold fast to what is good which is Christ, love each other with brotherly affection, outdo one another in showing honor, and not be slothful.
- Pray the same for your spouse.
- Pray the same for your children.
- It’s Tuesday, so pray for your church elders and families.
By the way, Meredith passed and had a lovely DMV lady who was not sloth like at all. Yeah!!!
