Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and deacons: Grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now (Philippians 1:1-5).
The word ‘joy’ in Greek means cheerfulness, gladness, a calm delight. As Paul thinks about and prays for the saints at Philippi, he is filled with joy. I had a similar experience yesterday morning as I was having my quiet time. I received a text from a young lady asking me to send her a verse. The verse that came to mind was Romans 12:12 which says, “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer.” This verse is one my favorites and I have it up in some form in just about every room of my home. She thanked me. Afterwards, I felt compelled to send her a video of me reading my morning devotional. As I was reading, I was overcome with joy in thinking of and praying for her. I asked her for permission to post the video here. May it encourage you today.
I think the Philippians were encouraged upon receiving this letter from Paul and thinking about that brought about joy in Paul. I think the young lady that reached out to me yesterday was encouraged upon receiving that verse and video from me and it certainly brought me joy. It doesn’t take much to encourage another; a letter, a verse, a video, a phone call, a prayer. It makes me think of Proverbs 12:25 which says, “a word of encouragement doth wonders.”
Blessings to you,
Heather
