It’s Cold, Yet It’s Spring

It’s a cold day here in Minnesota and yet, it’s spring. This morning I was reading in Habakkuk and came up on Chapter 3 verses 17-19 which say,

"17 Though the fig tree should not blossom,
    nor fruit be on the vines,
the produce of the olive fail
    and the fields yield no food,
the flock be cut off from the fold
    and there be no herd in the stalls,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord;
    I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
19 God, the Lord, is my strength;
    he makes my feet like the deer's;
    he makes me tread on my high places."

Do you see this dichotomy of the sadness of the cold contrasted with the joy of spring? Even though the trees are not in blossom, no fruit is on the trees, no produce is harvested from the olive trees or field, and the flocks and herds are gone, He is rejoicing in the Lord, the God of His salvation.

Are you waiting out in the cold shivering? If you are, I encourage you to come into the warmth of spring and rejoice with me in the God of our Salvation. Oh may we live in the YET and not in the cold. Even when things don’t go the way we hope, we, in Christ, can have joy by focusing on who He is, what His promises are, and who we are in Him.

Blessings to you,

Heather Haas
