Advent, December 21, 2020

My daughter and I went for a walk near our cabin and walked to a beautiful farm that had lots of cows. As soon as we called to them and came near, they woke up and walked towards us, seemingly excited to have company; to have us with them.

I think that is how we are. We are just going about business and then the Lord draws near and calls to us. We can’t help but wake up and draw near to Him. If you have drawn near already, then praise the Lord, but if you have not and hear Him calling, don’t be like the cows in the background who never moved; just come quickly and give your life to the One who was, is, and is to come; Your Savior; Immanuel!

The cows drawing near when called.

Here is the days of Advent up through today :)

This is what it means to set your mind on things that are “true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and worthy of praise.”
Philippians 4:8

December 18, 2020 – Zechariah & Elizabeth

The angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. (Luke 1:13)

December 19, 2020 – John the Baptist

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”  But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:14-17)

December 20, 2020 – Mary

In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah,  and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.” (Luke 1:29-45)

December 21, 2020 – Joseph

Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.  And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.  But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.  She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel

(which means, God with us).  When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife,  but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus. (Matthew 1:18-25)
