Today, we pick up with the account of Abraham. After the flood, God told Noah and his family to spread out over the face of the earth and be fruitful and multiply. They obeyed the command to be fruitful and multiply, but they stayed together thus disobeying. After some time, the people decided to build a huge tower, much like our skyscrapers today. They wanted to make something that they could worship, that they had made with their own hands. However, God, in His mercy, stopped this by giving them the gift of many languages. Up until this point, they all spoke the same language. Now, the people were unable to understand one another and the building of the tower, which later became known as the Tower of Babel, stopped. With the gift of language, the people began to spread over the face of the earth.
God chose a man, who eventually became the father of the Israelites. His name was Abram, later Abraham, and he was a descendent of Noah. You can read about his life in Genesis 12-25. God made a covenant with Abraham; a Precious Promise.
Genesis 22:17-18 “I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies, and in your offspring (Jesus) shall all the nations of the earth be blessed (us in Christ), because you have obeyed my voice.”
Galatians 3:7-9, 16, 29 “Know then that it is those of faith (in Christ) who are the sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.” So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. Now these promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, “And to your offspring,” who is Christ. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.“
Who is God in the person of Christ? He is the Fulfillment of Promise.
Who are you in Him? A Blessed Heir of Promise.
