II Timothy 4:1-5 says, “I (Timothy) charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
Here are a few questions that I am asking myself these days:
Who are you listening to these days, Heather? What are you reading, Heather? Who is scratching your ears, Heather? Are you listening to what “they” say, whoever “they” may be or are you listening to God and what He says? Who do you know better?
Here is my prayer this morning:
Oh Lord, help me to listen to You and read your word. I want You to satisfy the itching of my ears to know what to do during these days. I don’t want to quote the “theys” of this world, I want to quote You and what You say. I know who You are. May the circumstances in our world humble me. May they keep me on my knees praying and seeking the You. May they help me to turn from my sin and turn toward You keeping my eyes fixed firmly on You knowing that You and You alone have called me by name and redeemed me. Keep me humble, Lord.
II Chronicles 7:14
If My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
James 4:10
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you.
I Peter 5:5-7
Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time He may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.
Philippians 2:3 Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.
Ephesians 4:1-3 I (Paul) therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Dear ones, may you pursue a humble attitude before the Lord. It’s so easy on social media to say things that we wouldn’t dare to say to one another in person. Watch who you are listening to and who is scratching your itchy ears. Humbly seek the Lord and as you come to His word put to paper what He says about who He is and what He says about who you are in Him. When you know who He is and who you are in Him, you are equipped for every good work. If you are wondering what to do these days and what the Lord is requiring of you. Here is what is word says in Micah 6:8. “Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.
Blessings to you!
Heather
