How to Put Together a Prayer Pack
Pocket 10: Saturdays
John 8:12 says, ““I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” In Him, we are to be the light of the world in our neighborhoods and in our spheres of influence. So, on Saturdays, I encourage to split up the four Saturdays of the month and pray for the things listed below. We want to be doers of the word and not hearers only and Colossians 4:2-6 has some wonderful things for us to do :)
Colossians 4:2-6 Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison—that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak. Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
What are we do in Christ? Pray!!!! Be thankful!!!! Declare Him clearly!!! Walk in wisdom!!!! Make the best use of time!!! Have your speech be gracious and salty making those in your presence thirsty for more. Be a light to the world. May you be bold when given the opportunity to declare Acts 4:12 which says, “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
1st Saturday – Neighbors
Matthew 22:39 “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
I encourage you to get a map of your neighborhood and pray house by house, family by family. Get to know their names. The other day I was out on a walk and met a gentleman named Mohammad. He and his wife live in our neighborhood and I had never met him in person. After talking with him, he said that Paul and I should come for a visit; that he and his wife feel lonely and would love some company. It was so sweet.
2nd Saturday – Single/Divorced/Widows/Infertility
Single/Divorced
I Corinthians 7:38 “So then he who marries his betrothed does well, and he who refrains from marriage will do even better.”
I encourage you to pray for those struggling with singleness. The apostle Paul thought that one who refrains from marriage does quite well, even better than one who marries. However, I do pray for those that I know that are single and would love to be married that the Lord would help them wait upon Him and that they would be given contentment.
Matthew 5: 32 “But I (Jesus) say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.”
I encourage you to pray for those that are considering divorce that they would heed the words of Jesus. In Christ, divorce is never the answer. There is not a reason in all the world that two people who both claim Christ as Savior should pursue divorce. There may be reason to separate, but not divorce. For those that you know that are divorced and not remarried, pray for their contentment. For those that you know are divorced and remarried, pray for their contentment and commitment to another marriage.
Widows
James 1:27 “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”
I know quite a few men and women whose spouses have passed away. After watching my dad lose my mother and then his 2nd wife, I know how broken he was and the sadness that comes when widowed. Widows and widowers need prayer and encouragement. When you see them let them know you are praying and that you remember.
Infertility
Psalm 113:9 “He settles the childless woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the Lord.
Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
I have had the privilege of co-leading a MOMS group at our church the last two decades and have watched the heartache of women wanting children, but can’t. These precious women need prayer for contentment as they wait upon the Lord to either open their wombs or open their arms to adopt.
3rd Saturday – Moral Issues: Sexual Immorality, Abortion, Prodigals
Sexual Immorality
I Corinthians 6:17-20 “But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
I encourage you to pray for those that you know that are struggling these kinds of things…pornography, homosexuality, adultery, etc.
Abortion
Psalm 139:13-14 “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
Pray for those you know that are considering abortion, that the Lord would open their eyes and protect them from this. Pray for those that you know who have had abortions and ask the Lord to draw close and provide the comfort that only He can.
Prodigals
Luke 15:24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to celebrate.
Many families suffer with wayward children. Please pray for these families to stay the course as they wait for their children to come back. Pray for these children that have left. Pray that the Lord would send others into their lives to point them to the Lord. If given the opportunity, let those that you are praying for know that you are.
4th Saturday – Businesses
Matthew 5:15-16 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
I encourage you to get to know those that you see often at stores you go to on a weekly basis. Get to know the check out people at Target and make a point of shopping on the same day and the same time so that you can see them and get to know them. Get to know your hairdresser so that you can pray for her/him and their whole family. Get to know the people that work at Starbucks. You get the idea :). As you get to know them, let them know that you are praying for them. This has been such a sweet way of being intentional.
Remember, you are the light of the world. Philippians 2:14-16 says, “Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life.
Who is God? He is the Light of the World, the One to whom we pray.
Who are you in Him? You Shine Like Lights in the World.
Blessings to you as you pray for many in this broken world. Remember that “you are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they set it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.May your light shine before others so that my see your good works and give glory to your Father who is heaven.”
Matthew 5:14-16
