He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and in Him, you are Secure and Belong

Yesterday, I wrote about my grandma Jan, who prayed not only for me, but for many others. Today, I am going to turn my attentions to my dear mom, who also prayed.

My mother, Nancy, who has been with the Lord since 2007, was the most wonderful mother. I am thankful for the 38 years that I had with her this side of heaven and I cannot wait to see her again.  My mother was a delight.  If any of you reading this knew her, you know exactly what I mean.  When she walked into a room, the room lit up and sparkled with her presence.  She had the unique ability to make the most dull task enjoyable.  On Saturday mornings, my sister and I would sit with her in bed and she would give us our ‘to do’ lists.  She encouraged us and said that our chores would go faster if we invited our friends to come over and help.  Amazingly, we had very obliging friends and they came often.  Our mother would turn on the music loud and off we would go with friends at our sides working together getting our home in order for another week.  My mom had a wonderful sense of humor.  She was so fun to be with and talk with.  She was a good listener and was so eager to know what was going on not only in my day to day,  but in my heart.  My mother, like her mother, also had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus as her Savior and raised my sister Jennie, and me to know Him and love Him.  Jennie and I had an incredible advocate in our mother.  She was our greatest support and we both miss her terribly.  One of the ways that she supported us most readily is through prayer. She prayed using lists like my grandma, but in the form of mind mapping. She would put our names in a circle with spokes coming out of them with all the things that she was praying for us.

My mother knew much scripture by memory.  I have verses throughout my Bible with her name next to them because they were her life verses; verses that she clung to in the ups and downs of life.  Here are a couple:

John 14:1-6

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to Myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.”Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Romans 8:34-39

Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Who is God? He is Jesus; the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Who are we in Him? We belong to Him and are secure.

Here is the songs, “The Way” by Pat Barrett and “Nothing Can Separate Us” by Scripture Lullabies.

Blessings to you,

Heather
