He is the Rock and you, in Him, are Standing

Why Pray?

  1. We pray because it is how we communicate with God.
  2. We pray because Jesus prayed and He expects us to pray.
  3. We pray because God grants us the power to pray in the Spirit.
  4. We pray because it helps us not be anxious about anything.
  5. We pray because it is one way to be a doer of the Word.

I Thessalonians 5:17 says, “Pray without ceasing.” (We are commanded to pray.)

Matthew 7:24-27 Jesus says,  “Everyone then who hears these words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the Rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the Rock. And everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

Oh, may we doers of the Word and pray!!!!

The rains are certainly falling these days, the floods have come, and the winds are beating on our homes, aren’t they? May we heed the encouragement from the book of James 1:2-8 which says, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”

My desire is to remain steadfast and wise standing firmly upon the Rock during these days and I have found that the older I get and the more trials I have walked through, the more sure this Rock has become.  He is faithful!  However, there are still times when I find myself tempted to stand upon sinking sand doubting His faithfulness; lately this comes in the form of too much scrolling through headlines and newsfeeds, and I begin falling, but not for long because He is faithful.  When the apostle Peter was given the ability to walk on water to meet Jesus, Peter was able as long as his eyes remained fixed on Him.  As soon as he began focusing on all that was around him and took his eyes off of Jesus, he began to sink.  But Jesus reached down and saved him.  Read the account for yourselves.

Matthew 14:22-33

Immediately He made the disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He dismissed the crowds. And after He had dismissed the crowds, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. When evening came, He was there alone, but the boat by this time was a long wayfrom the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. And in the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, He was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
