I am married to my high school sweet heart whose name is Paul.  I have five children whose names are Elizabeth, James, Jacob, Meredith, and Gwendolyn. I have one son-in-law whose name is Mauricio. I have two grandsons named Lucas and Caleb. Names are important and they have been from the very beginning. Names are personal, have meaning, and match our personalities uniquely. Names are God’s idea. With that, let’s turn to who God is and who you are in Him. 

Who Is God? He is YAHWEH (LORD), that is His name.

Exodus 3:13-15

“Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” 

God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations.”

“I am who I am” is translated in Hebrew as YAHWEH. The God of the Bible is not some deity among other deities. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. He has a  personal name because He is a personal God and thus has made a way for us to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son, Jesus. Romans 10:9-10 says, “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” What an amazing provision from a personal God to have a personal relationship with those who confess and believe. When you come to scripture and see the word LORD in capital letters that is YAHWEH, His name. He is proclaiming His name all throughout scripture. 

Who are you in Him? You are called by name and you belong to Him.

Isaiah 43:1b-3a

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;

I have called you by name, you are mine.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;

and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;

when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,

and the flame shall not consume you.

For I am the LORD your God,

the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”

In Christ, you have been called by name!!! That is incredible! The God of the universe,  the One who is Almighty, who is Beautiful, who is the Creator, who is the Deliverer, who is Eternal, who is Faithful, Good, Holy, Incomprehensible, Just, the One who is the King of kings and Lord of lords, the One who is Merciful, Never-tiring, Omnipresent, the One who is your Provider, the Queller of fear, the One who is your Refuge, the One who is Sovereign, Trustworthy, Understanding, Victorious, the One who is Worthy of all our praise, the One who is eXalted above all has a name. His name is YAHWEH and He has called you by name. 

In light of all that is going on in the world, the is good news.  For those of you who are not believing or are waffling in your belief, may today be the day where you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus is your Savior. He is YAHWEH!
