The last two evenings my daughter has given her little newborn a bath in the kitchen sink in our cabin. It seems like yesterday that I was giving her a bath in our kitchen sink. Anyway, she gets him ready by undressing him, which he hates and lets her know full well by crying. If his protests had words, I think they would say, “Mama, what is going on? I am so cold. I hate this. Please mama…HELP!!!” Of course, Elizabeth responds quickly to his cries and places him in the warm water where he calms down and is quiet. It is so sweet. He is completely at rest, safe in the arms of his mama, and warmed from head to toe in the water. This is a little REFUGE for him. With that, let’s turn our attention to who God is and who you are in Him.
Who is God? He is a REFUGE in times of trouble.
Who are you in Him? You are safe in the arms of your Savior.
We turn to the promises of scripture which are all true for you in Christ Jesus.
Psalm 46:1
“God is our REFUGE and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
Psalm 91:2
“I will say to the LORD, “My REFUGE and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
Psalm 62:5-8
“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from Him.
He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my REFUGE is God.
Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a REFUGE for us.”
Psalm 34:8
“Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes REFUGE in Him!”
Psalm 36:7
“How precious is Your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take REFUGE in the shadow of Your wings.”
Psalm 57:1
“Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in You my soul takes REFUGE; in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by.”
Psalm 59:16
“But I will sing of Your strength; I will sing aloud of Your steadfast love in the morning. For You have been to me a fortress and a REFUGE in the day of my distress.”
These are precious promise aren’t they? Here are a few of them again.
He is a very present help in trouble.
He is a place of safety; a fortress.
You will not be shaken.
Blessed are you when you take refuge in Him.
You are safe in the shadow of His wings until the storm passes.
He is a refuge in times of distress.
Wow!!! During this time, if you are in Christ, you are safe. He is your REFUGE! If you not believing or waffling in your belief, today is the day to run to Him. Proverbs 18:10 says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run to it and are safe.” May you run to Him and rest safely in the arms of your Savior. Jesus says, “Come to Me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.” May you head His call and rest in Him.
