I woke in the night feeling anxious. These certainly are troubling times.  I sat there for a bit with my heart pounding and then began to pray the ABC’s of God and the Lord quieted my heart and I was able to sleep again. 

Who is God?

He is the DELIVERER. 

This word “deliverer,” in the Hebrew, means, “to to carry away safely”. 

There are many references to God as DELIVERER throughout the Bible.  One of my life verses is Psalm 18:2 which says, “The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my DELIVERER, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

Who are you in Him?

In Christ, you are delivered from the power of sin and death. 

When my mother was sick with pancreatic cancer, many verses that she had learned in childhood came to her.  One afternoon I was sitting with her and out of the blue she said, “Heather, I want you to listen to this, ‘Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? (She inserted, “Pancreatic Cancer?”)As it is written,“For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” NO! In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.’  She looked at me and told me that she had learned that when she was just 5 years old. 

These precious truths were true for my mother because Jesus was her DELIVERER.

If you are trusting in Jesus today, then those truths are true for you as well.  

So, will the coronavirus separate us?  NO!  Will the locusts in Africa separate us?  NO! Will the consequences of the fires in Australia separate us? NO! Will losing a parent separate us? NO!  Will losing a spouse separate us? NO!  Will the loss of a child separate us?  NO!  Will having an ailing parent or child separate us? NO!   Can anything separate us from Him?  NO!  Why? Because He is our DELIVERER!  This is such good news!!!!

II Chronicles 7:13-14 say, “Whenever I hold back rain or send locusts to eat up the crops or send an epidemic on my people, if they pray to me and repent and turn away from the evil they have been doing, then I will hear them, forgive their sins, and make their land prosperous again.”  I think the Lord is trying to get our attention so let’s humble ourselves before Him and pray!
